UGANDA (Focus Area 1):

Juliet Naisanga

Juliet Naisanga

Juliet Naisanga is 8 years old and lives with her 80 year old grandmother as well as two other siblings (brother / sister) near one of our partner orphanage / schools in Uganda.  Both of Juliet's parents mysteriously disappeared only a few years after her birth and it is still not yet known whether they are dead or alive.

During the time of their disappearance, Juliet and her parents were living in north eastern Uganda in an area prone to rebel activities and violence.  After both of Juliet's parents mysteriously disappeared, she was brought to her grandmother's house by unknown Samaritans.  With that noted, it is clear that should these Samaritans not have stumbled across Juliet, she would most likely have become another casualty of the rebel activities in northern Uganda.

Currently, Juliet's grandmother is unable to care for Juliet or her siblings due to her age and mobility constraints.  As such, Juliet's grandmother has subsequently turned to one of our partner institutions for help; neither Juliet or any of her siblings attend school or have received any formal education of any kind.

Joshua Being Treated

Joshua Being Treated

Joshua is also 8 years old and has proved himself to be a true trooper throughout the 8 years he has been alive.

Having lost both parents to HIV/AIDS, Joshua may eventually suffer the same fate as he has begun to display symptoms that are synonymous with being HIV positive. Additionally, Joshua suffers from Sickle Cell Anemia and as such goes through periods of severe unconditional pain in his stomach as well as many other regions of his body.  Joshua also had a large boil that was expanding on his neck surgically removed in early 2007.

Joshua After Having Boil Removed

Despite all of this, Joshua is a very upbeat young man and enjoys playing football and riding his bike as well as helping those who work at our partner institution every chance he has when he is not afflicted with pain as a result of the Sickle Cell Anemia.
