2008 Republican YouTube Debate

spacer

The November 28, 2008 CNN YouTube Republican debate was interestingly similar to that of the Democratic debate with a few exceptions; certain audience members that had their videos chosen were allowed to stand and acknowledge whether the questions posed in their YouTube videos had been answered.

As with all other debates held thus far, the CNN YouTube debate also found itself touching on the issue of gay rights.  Displayed videos included those from a former general (who is now openly gay) as well as the Log Cabin Republicans.  Although the Log Cabin Republican question centered primarily on whether or not a candidate would accept support from their organization, perhaps the most compelling question was that which was posed by a former general; a real person, with no political motive or agenda.

2008 HRC / Logo LGBT Debate

ObamaThe Logo / HRC debate held on August 9, 2007 had many of the underlying components that accompany every presidential debate.  All of the questions posed by the panel members which included Jonathan Capehart and Margaret Carlson, musician/activist, Melissa Etheridge and Human Rights Campaign president Joe Solomonese were very well thought out and delivered; although, Mellisa Ethredge was difficult to follow at times and seemed to ramble with her delivery.  All of the candidates attempted to try and explain their position on same sex marriage, but no one candidate made it absolutely clear as to why they reside on their particular belief.

CURRENT ELECTION NEWS

2008 Presidential Candidates

The upcoming presidential election in 2008 will have wide sweeping effects on the LGBT community at large.  As such, it has never been more important to understand where each candidate running stands on the issues of gay rights.  More specifically, it is also imperative that one also understands the background of each candidate running so that one may make an educated and well rounded decision on election day in 2008.

To facilitate this end, we have established a special section on our website that will address the front-runner candidates and ultimately those who receive the final party nominations.  Next to each candidate will be an indicator that will identify them either as "LGBT Friendly" or "Non-LGBT Friendly."

As this next election is so important to our cause, it is imperative all members of the LGBT community vote on election day as every vote will represent the voice of a strengthening community of diverse individuals.
