Repeal Don't Ask, Don't Tell |
 |
|
 |
 |
|

"Don't
ask, don't tell"
was
introduced as a compromise measure
in 1993 by President Bill Clinton
who, while campaigning for the
Presidency, had promised to allow
all citizens regardless of sexual
orientation to serve openly in the
military, a departure from the then
complete ban on those who are not
heterosexual. The actual policy was
crafted by Colin Powell and has been
maintained by Clinton's successor,
George W. Bush.

Personal Information No Longer Secure? |
 |
|
 |
 |
|

Under a
security agreement reached July 26 between the United States
and the European Union, the U.S. Department of Homeland
Security (DHS) could obtain personal information about
airline passengers flying into the U.S. from Europe,
including information about a passenger’s “health or sex
life.”
The agreement restricts the collection and use of such
information to “exceptional” cases, where the “life of a
data subject or of others could be imperiled or seriously
impaired,” potentially due to the threat of a terrorist
attack.

Dustin McDaniel, Arkansas' Attorney General took a firm
stance on LGBT adoption by approving (for a second time) a
proposed ballot initiative that would ban LGBT individuals
in addition to unmarried couples from partaking in foster
parenting or adopting children.
In its latest form, the initiative notes that married
couples are the best people to raise children.
The conservative Christian group that originally launched
this effort is now seeking 62,000 signatures (which must be
acquired by July, 2008) to ensure that the measure makes its
way to the ballot in November of 2008.
